PERMISSION GRANTED FOR NEW ANCILLARY SPORT FACILITIES

The Planning Commission has approved two planning applications for the construction of new ancillary facilities that will help upgrade and improve the progress of the respective sports.

Within the Hal Far Industrial Area, the commission granted planning permission for the construction of a Clubhouse for the sport of model aircraft flying. The approved 117m2 clubhouse which will include landscaping and other amenities is a unique and innovative design building. The approved development respects the allowable height for the area and lies adjacent to a site designated as the Hal Far Public Recreation and Sports Areas where a quarter of a mile track is situated.

The Planning Commission also approved upgrading works on the Basketball Pavillion and its ancillary facilities in Ta’ Qali, Attard. The approved works are an amendment to a 2013 development permit which consented to the construction of a basketball training gym. The works will include an increase in the size of the training gym to accommodate a seating area of approximately 630 seats for spectators. The works will also include the dismantling of the existing corrugated sheeting and the roofing of the basketball pavilion. Landscaping and a new parking layout were also approved as part of the permit. The parking area will accommodated approximately 200 car parking spaces.
